Who we are

This is a personal blog, written and edited by me Hemalatha Chandran, and the website address is  https://hemamagesh.com.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it.

This Privacy Policy document contains types of information that is collected by us and how we use it. We will make it clear when we collect personal information and will explain what we intend to do with it (see sections below). Your privacy is of utmost importance to us and we take your privacy very seriously.

If you are asked to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Comments and other content submitted to Akismet anti-spam service are not saved on our servers unless they were marked as false positives, in which case we store them long enough to use them to improve the service to avoid future false positives.

Contact Forms

When visitors enter their information in the contact form provided in this website, they may opt to give consent to having this website store their information, so that we can respond to their inquiry, by checking the GDPR agreement form. The contact form does not use any cookies, as the form entries are not stored.

Cookies

“Cookies” are small pieces of information sent by a web server to an individual’s device, which are then stored on the device hard-drive.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

We will not use cookies to retrieve information from your computer that was not originally sent in a cookie or for any promotional or marketing purposes nor to share information with any third parties.

Furthermore, browsers may also allow users to see and delete cookies one by one.

Automatically collected information

We follow a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. The information collected by log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users’ movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

Where we provide links to websites of other organizations, this privacy policy does not cover how such organization process personal information. Note that once you leave our site using these links we cannot be responsible for the privacy and protection of details that you provide while visiting those sites. Analytics

We use a third-party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behavior patterns (i.e. number of visitors to the various parts of the site, IP). This information is only processed in an aggregate way which does not identify anyone. We do not make and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

We collect information about visitors who comment on our site through the Akismet anti-spam service. The information we collect depends on how the User sets up Akismet for the Site, but typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).

The image optimizing service on our site uses the Stackpath Content Delivery Network (CDN). Stackpath may store web log information of site visitors, including IPs, UA, referrer, Location and ISP info of site visitors for 7 days. Files and images served by the CDN may be stored and served from countries other than your own. Stackpath’s Privacy Policy can be found here.

How we protect your data

The information you provide to us will be held on our computers, on the servers of our hosting provider and our cloud provider. We use the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) which is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser.  

We use physical and technological security measures to protect your information from access by unauthorized persons and against unlawful processing and damage.  Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure and therefore we cannot guarantee the security of any data disclosed online. 

We urge you not to submit any sensitive personal information to this website as we do not collect any such information. This includes data consisting of racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, or trade union membership, genetic data, biometric data, data concerning health or criminal background. 

We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we have your permission or are required by law to do so.

What third parties we receive data from

1)Third-party vendors, including Google & media.net, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to the users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

In doing so, these vendors may collect non-personal data such as your browser type, your operating system, Web pages visited, time of visits, content viewed, ads viewed, and other clickstream data. The use of cookies, web beacons or similar technologies by these advertising service vendors is subject to their own privacy policies and is not covered by the privacy policy of this website.

Users may opt-out of personalized advertising by visiting Ads Settings. Users may also opt-out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.

Media.net is one such third-party vendor who serves ads on our website. You can opt-out of interest-based ads served by media.net, by visiting Ad Choices. You can have a look at their privacy policy for more details on how they process user information.

2)We collect your email address (when you provided it to us) to send you updates on newly published posts or pages on our website. The legal basis for processing your personal data is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR. As we rely on your consent to process your data, you have the right to withdraw consent for data processing (and therefore unsubscribe to the email subscription service) at any time. 

You are also given the opportunity to unsubscribe or change your subscription preferences at any point by clicking ‘Unsubscribe’ or ‘Update subscription preferences’ respectively on the footer of any email you receive from us. We use a third-party data processor to distribute the emails, MailChimp and therefore we will provide them with your data. Please check MailChimp privacy policy and notice that MailChimp uses web beacons to gather information about the success of their email campaigns (e.g. when an email was opened, IP address).

Children’s Information

Another part of our priority is adding protection for children while using the internet. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity.

We do not knowingly collect any Personal Identifiable Information from children under the age of 13. If you think that your child provided this kind of information on our website, we strongly encourage you to contact us immediately and we will do our best efforts to promptly remove such information from our records.
